Bunaken

Bunaken is a 8 km2 island which gave its name to Bunaken National Park. This park was created in 1991 and extends an area of 891 km2 , 97% of which is water.

The remaining 3 % basically consist in five islands : Bunaken, Siladen, Manado Tua, Mantehage and Nain.

Waters in the park are deep and can reach 1566m in Manado bay. Visibility ranges from 35 to 40 meters and temperature reaches from 27 to 29°C.

Bunaken has one of the world’s most important biodiversity, as it is just beyond Wallace line. You can find here 70 different species of corals (for 10 in Hawaii for instance).

Probably more than 2500 species of fish live here, which is about 70% of the whole fish species in west Pacific Ocean.
