Off the coast of Ecuador, the Galápagos combine volcanic islands, several ocean currents and marine life that draws divers from around the world. Hammerhead sharks, Galápagos sharks, turtles and sea lions are among the possible encounters. Depending on the sites and conditions, other dives may offer opportunities to observe rays or marine iguanas.

To explore the northern islands of Darwin and Wolf, choose a dedicated diving liveaboard. These remote waters are known for aggregations of hammerhead sharks. Whale sharks are particularly associated with Darwin between June and November. No wildlife encounter is guaranteed.
The exact programme depends on the vessel and its authorised itinerary. Naturalist cruises and diving liveaboards offer different experiences: we check the planned sites and time allocated to diving with you.
Diving takes place throughout the year, with conditions changing by season and location within the archipelago. June to November is especially relevant for divers hoping to encounter whale sharks at Darwin. Current conditions, the species you hope to see and your experience should guide your choice of departure.
Currents can be strong, and water temperatures vary between sites. Certification requirements, minimum logged dives and recommended equipment must be checked for each vessel and itinerary. Asiaqua helps you choose a programme suited to your diving experience.
Open-water scenes and schools of fish offer opportunities for wide-angle photography. Equipment choices should also reflect the diving conditions and your confidence in currents. We discuss the pace of the itinerary and onboard facilities with you when planning your photography trip.
