Cheng Ho is an ironwood schooner (sailboat), 33m long and 10m wide. It is a traditional Phinisi from the land of Bugis, south of Sulawasi. This gorgeous boat combines the comfort of modern ships with the charm of old vessels. She is equipped with a 347HP engine and 3 auxiliary engines, and 110 and 220 volts electricity is dispatched through 3 generators.
Electronic sailing equipment includes radar, Furuno GPS and Koden sounders. VHF and SSB radio systems, as well as a satellite phone in case of emergency power communication. Medical and first aid kit, oxygen supply, 2 liferafts, 2 EPIRBs, 80 life jackets, smoke detectors and fire extinguishers are available on board. A watermaker and 3 compressors, one of which is Nitrox, complete these equipment’s.
Cheng Ho has 14 luxurious wood cabins, all with air-con, toilets and private bathrooms. Built on 3 decks, with a sundeck, she usually operates with 14 divers on board, but up to 24 divers can be accommodated under excellent conditions with big living spaces.
This boat operates liveaboards in Komodo, Alor and Maumere all year long, for 6 days / 5 nights trips and even some for 10 days / 9 nights. During summer, most liveaboards operate for 6 days / 5 nights.
This is a perfect boat for those who cannot join long liveaboards, as well as for divers travelling on their own, as single cabins are available.
Cheng Ho operates liveaboards in Komodo National Park all year long, mainly short 6 Days 5 Nights & 7 Days 6 Nights rotations. From October to the end of November, long 11/10 Days / 10/9 Nights rotations to Banda Sea: Maumere, Alor, Ambon.
You will make 4 dives a day, including a night dive.The dive crew counts 5 members : 1 French-speaking tour leader and 4 Indonesian guides. They all speak different foreign languages and are PADI professionals. Dive ratio is 5 :1, so everyone can enjoy a relaxing dive.
Two fiberglass dinghies (powered by 40HP Yamaha engines) are used for pick-ups where you exit water at the end of your dive, to get back to the boat. 4 dives a day are planned, one of which a night dive.

Nitrox, with membrane compressor, is available for certified divers.
The boat is built on 3 decks. On the upper deck is the wheelhouse, right behind are the cabins: 3 Double guest cabins and captain’s cabin at the back ; then a lounge outdoor space with armchairs. It is a much-appreciated chill-out space.
Then there is the huge air-conditioned saloon, with its comfortable sofas and armchairs, a library and home cinema with DVD player and Karaoke. Next is a Lounge Bar, with big deep armchairs, also a pleasant space.
On the main deck, at the front, there is the dive platform where tanks and dive equipment are stored. On port side is the station for digital and video cameras to prepare and store your equipment.
Below the wheelhouse is the air-con dining room, with its panoramic view on Flores sea and volcanoes. Inside, a big buffet table an a media centre with a large plasma screen. Then there is the kitchen. At the back of this main deck, are 4 single cabins, each one with a private bathroom.
On the lower deck, at the front of the boat, are 7 guest cabins: 3 Double and 4 Twin. A big screening room to watch pictures/videos of the day and a great library. At the back, behind the engine room, are the crew and captain’s quarters.
Above the upper deck, a sundeck with deckchairs to contemplate the islands and volcanoes. It is also the perfect place to look at stars and the sun set.
The crew is Indonesian and has a solid experience in dive liveaboards in the area.
